Lecture series “Talking about research. An introduction to science communication − from press releases to podcasts”
Successful science communication can help to draw attention to your research, transfer your findings to society and get people excited about science. It is hard to imagine modern research without it. The spectrum of possible communication channels now ranges from classic press releases for journalists, to direct contact with target groups via social media, as well as individual on-stage performances e.g. as part of science slams. However, finding the right channel for communication and striking the right tone can be quite challenging when you are spoiled for choice.
This is why the Press Office and the Center for Continuing Education at TU Dresden are organizing the lecture series “Talking about research. An introduction to science communication - from press releases to podcasts”. Over the course of three lectures, experts will discuss the different aspects of science communication while explaining the various dos and don'ts of communicating with the much invoked “interested public”.
The series will start off with the lecture entitled Why science communication? How to get into conversation with the public” by scientist and communicator Dr. Lorenz Adlung on October 27.
In the second lecture on November 15, the science editor of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Dr. Christina Berndt will address the questions “what does the media want from me? and what do I get out of it? How to collaborate with the media in a way that is beneficial for both sides”. To conclude the series at the end of the semester, social media will once again take center stage.
All scientists and interested members of TU Dresden who would like to learn more about science communication, regardless of their previous experience, are cordially invited to attend.
