Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften
On the occasion of the Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften on July 8, 2022, the Chair of Numerical and Experimental Solid Mechanics was once again a guest of Prof. Odenbach in the Mollier Building and this year was represented with three offers:
On the one hand, photoelastic experiments were shown. Stresses in transparent materials such as glass or plastic can be made visible with the aid of polarized light. For example, it was possible to discover internal stresses in plastic spoons and eyeglass lenses that occur during the production process.
Our younger visitors were particularly drawn to the self-programmed Bridge Builder game: self-drawn bridges were scanned and the crossing of a car was simulated using the finite element method. Many interesting constructions were created!
Meanwhile, in front of the Mollierbau, visitors were able to test ride eBikes equipped with sensors and have their own ride measured in terms of the acceleration values achieved.
We were pleased about the many interested visitors and are already looking forward to the next edition in 2023!
