Award: Friedrich and Elisabeth BOYSEN Foundation Encouragement Award for Dr. Johannes Manthey
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Beckmann, holder of the Chair of Energy Process Engineering and advisor for the dissertation, with Dr.-Ing. Johannes Manthey after the award ceremony.
Our former Research Associate, Dr.-Ing. Johannes Manthey, was awarded the Friedrich and Elisabeth BOYSEN Foundation’s Research Prize at the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering’s Open House on June 19, 2026. This prestigious prize is awarded annually to recognize outstanding doctoral dissertations in the field of environmental engineering.
Dr. Manthey received the award for his dissertation titled “Bubble Formation Due to Supersaturation in the Cooling Circuit of PEM Electrolysis.” In his work, he investigated a key phenomenon in PEM water electrolysis, thereby making an important contribution to our understanding of gas bubble formation. The findings will help to further improve the operational safety, efficiency, and reliability of PEM electrolysis systems, thereby supporting the development of hydrogen technologies with enhanced capabilities.
The Friedrich and Elisabeth BOYSEN Foundation’s Research Award honors scientific work that contributes to environmental protection and resource conservation through innovative engineering approaches. The award underscores the high scientific quality of the research and simultaneously recognizes the exceptional commitment of the award recipients.
For the Chair of Energy Process Engineering, this honor is a special cause for celebration. It confirms the excellent research work being carried out at our chair and demonstrates the contribution our scientists are making to the further development of sustainable energy technologies.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr.-Ing. Johannes Manthey on this well-deserved award and are delighted by his success. We wish him all the best and continued success in his future professional and personal endeavors.
