Bioresponsive Material Systems and Bioinspired Composites

Within the research group biomimetic materials for hard tissue regeneration are investigated. The aim is to influence the cells of the bone by material-inherent properties. In addition, the analysis of biomaterial degradation is carried out for in vitro - in vivo translation.

Functional Biomaterials

In the field of matrix engineering, the group works on artificial extracellular matrices (aEZM) for defined communication with cells and the binding and release of biological mediator proteins. One of the research topics is the elucidation of the underlying molecular mechanisms by which chemically modified glycosaminoglycans (GAG) influence biological mediator proteins, such as growth factors. On the other hand, we deal with the design and characterization of multiparametrically defined cellular microenvironments and especially with the resulting biological reactions.

Corrosion and Surfaces

The group Corrosion and Surfaces deals with topics concerning the development and testing of surface coatings as well as problems in the field of corrosion and corrosion protection of metals.
