Exchange with Poland. The research stay of an AGH PhD student at the ILK

Within the PROM Programme of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange NAWA (Narodowa Agencja Wymiany Akademickiej) Dipl.-Ing. Wiktoria Skonieczna from the Faculty of Metal Engineering and Industrial IT (Wydział Inżynierii Metali i Informatyki Przemysłowej) of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow (Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza im. Stanisława Staszica w Krakowie) completed a research stay at the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK) of the TU Dresden.
From March 20th to 28th, 2023, the PhD student got acquainted with the scientific profile as well as the laboratories and machineries at the ILK, including the National Lightweight Validation Center (Nationales Leichtbau-Validierungszentrum, LEIV), which was newly opened a year ago. Preliminary research for her PhD was conducted, including the analysis of nickel alloy-based powder materials using scanning electron microscopy.
The stay is part of a series of cooperative activities of the ILK and the AGH in the field of model-based development of manufacturing processes with now more than 15 years of history. In this sense, it primarily aimed at defining the cross-sectional topics and issues for the future cooperation of both research institutions and thus to lay the foundation for further exchange, joint publications as well as research projects. With the same objective, small research groups from the ILK also traveled to the AGH in March (from March 5th to 11th, 2023 and 19th to 25th again) in an exchange through the PROM program. Rebecca Bräuer, Tino Mrotzek, Johannes Gerritzen and Rafal Stanik discussed joint research activities on titanium-metal matrix composites with the partner in Krakow and prepared another international project along the axis Germany - Poland - South Korea.
