The partnership with Rolls-Royce: ­ A lighthouse of international­ization at the TU Dresden

With the so-called "lighthouses" of internationalization, the TU Dresden honors outstanding international partnerships, networks and programs. The selected decentralized activities contribute in their breadth to bring the TU Dresden one step further on the path to becoming a global university. In September 2021, the International Affairs Commission announced for the first time 22 such shining examples of internationalization and awarded them with the status of a lighthouse.

The Dresden UTC "Lightweight Structures and Materials and Robust Design", and thus the Rolls-Royce partnership, received this recognition in the category "International Network with Outstanding TUD Participation". The Dresden UTC involves the Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK) with its three Chairs (Prof. Gude, Prof. Jäger and Prof. Modler) and the Senior Professorship (Prof. Hufenbach) as well as the Chair of Turbomachinery and Flight Propulsion (Prof. Mailach), the Chair of Thermal Power Machinery and Plants (Prof. Gampe), the Chair of Materials Technology (Prof. Leyens) and the Chair of Machine Elements (Prof. Schlecht). The award recognizes their work on the international level, in particular the long-standing collaborations with top-class British universities such as the University of Oxford or Imperial College London as well as with Nanyang Technology University (NTU) Singapore.

We are grateful for this award and congratulate all those who made this achievement and recognition possible - with the hope that UTC Dresden will continue to "shine" in matters of internationalization.
