Hands-on experience: Excursion to EAT European Air Transport at its Leipzig site
Students and members from the Chair of Aircraft Engineering in the maintenance hangar at EAT Leipzig on 22 January 2026
Leipzig/Dresden – Theory is the foundation, but practice is where engineering comes to life. On 22 January 2026, students from the Chair of Aircraft Technology had the opportunity to take an in-depth look behind the scenes at one of the most important players in European cargo aviation: EAT European Air Transport at Leipzig/Halle Airport.
The visit began with a comprehensive technical presentation that gave participants an understanding of the complex structures of EAT. The enormous logistical effort required to ensure a smooth freight chain and the technical availability of the fleet was particularly impressive.
The highlight of the excursion was undoubtedly the tour of the maintenance hangars. Here, the students were able to experience the theoretical content from their studies in real life. The group was given direct access to cargo aircraft that were currently undergoing maintenance.
It wasn't just a matter of looking from the outside: the students were allowed to climb directly into the machines and inspect the technology up close. This offered a rare opportunity to see maintenance processes and system components where they are installed.
The visit served explicitly to reinforce the content taught in the modules:
- Aircraft Systems and
- Aircraft Maintenance
We would like to thank EAT European Air Transport and the employees involved for their hospitality, the open atmosphere and the valuable insights into everyday work in aircraft technology.
