The Chair of Aircraft Engineering
The Chair of Aircraft Engineering at the University of Technology Dresden represents excellent research and practice-orientated teaching in the field of modern aviation. Under the leadership of Prof Dr Johannes Markmiller, we develop future-oriented concepts for sustainable and high-performance aircraft - always at the centre of tension between science, industry and social responsibility.
Our research activities focus on the design, simulation and optimisation of aircraft structures, particularly with a focus on fibre-reinforced composites and innovative construction methods. The main areas of research are divided into:
- Design, analysis and testing of aircraft structures,
- Development of simulation and optimisation tools for aircraft structures,
- preliminary design of aircraft.
Our teaching programme covers the entire development process of an aircraft - from the design phase through construction and production to maintenance. Students collaborate in interdisciplinary teams on realistic tasks and are specifically involved in ongoing research projects.
Another factor in our success is the experienced aviation-specific specialist staff - consisting of licensed pilots. This team not only enables practical training with a direct link to the aircraft, but also ensures that our research aircraft is professionally maintained and that experimental flight campaigns are carried out with the aircraft.
