The Chair of Aircraft Engineering will present the NaBuCo project at the ILA 2026 in Berlin
With its integrated flight simulator, the technology platform offers the opportunity to virtually test the effects of windscreen coatings.
What a fantastic and eventful week at ILA2026! ✈️
The Department of Aircraft Engineering at the Institute of Aerospace Engineering (ILR) – Dresden University of Technology (TUD) – can look back on some incredibly exciting days at the stand of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (Hall A, Stand 230). There, we had the opportunity to present our current LuFo research project, NaBuCo (nanodiamond-coated cockpit windscreens), to a wide audience of specialists.
Scratched screens affect flight behaviour due to the blurring effect, which can be experienced first-hand in the flight simulator.
Our technology platform, which we used on site as an interactive flight simulator, proved to be an absolute crowd-puller. Here, through strategically obscured windows, visitors to the exhibition were able to experience first-hand and tangibly just how significantly restricted visibility affects flight behaviour. This experience powerfully demonstrated the need for the innovative coatings that we are developing as part of our project.

The turnout was simply overwhelming! We’d like to thank each and every one of you for your tremendous interest, and especially those of you who patiently put up with waiting times of up to 2.5 hours at the flight simulator. This enthusiasm is our greatest motivation! ⏱️🛫
