Student Assistant job offer: Implementation and evaluation of investigations on additively manufactured, metallic aerostructures
We are looking for
a Student Assistant (10h/week, 3 months) as soon as possible with
- Interest in additive manufacturing and aircraft technology,
- basic knowledge of CAD software,
- good to very good academic performance,
- independent way of working,
- good knowledge of English.
The job includes, among others, the geometric nominal/actual comparison of additively manufactured tensile and fatigue specimens, the derivation of shape and position tolerances based on 3D surface scans and the correlation of 3D surface scans with data from optical strain measurements. Support is also required in analyzing fracture points of mechanically tested samples and in carrying out tests.
Eventually existing programming skills can be used to advance the automated determination of roughness parameters.
Background
The approval of additively manufactured components for aviation is addressed in a research project. Additively manufactured components are subject to many types of imperfections. In order to assess their effect on the load-bearing capacity, material samples are produced and then subjected to extensive tests (optical strain measurement, CT scan, 3D surface scan, etc.). The resulting data must be evaluated in order to gain important insights into the relationship between the constitution of the additively manufactured components and their resulting structural properties.
The advertised position offers interested students the opportunity to actively participate in future-oriented manufacturing concepts, enables the direct application of the knowledge acquired during their studies to current practical issues and also offers the opportunity to acquire further skills.
