Open Day at the SML construction site in Hoyerswerda
The Chair of Aircraft Engineering showcased its research aircraft and offered visitors fascinating insights through its technology platform
The technology platform gave a large number of visitors the opportunity to fly the TU Dresden’s research aircraft themselves.
Hot temperatures, cool technologies! ☀️✈️
The Smart Mobility Lab (SML) open day at the construction site in Hoyerswerda last Sunday was a real experience!
We from the Chair of Aircraft Engineering were there and, using our technology platform, were able to provide fascinating insights into our current projects in the world of aviation.

The focus of the day was on our pioneering research into drone-aircraft interaction. How can manned and unmanned aircraft operate safely and efficiently within the same airspace? We are currently exploring these forward-looking questions in joint, highly exciting projects with our fantastic partners:
TU Dresden – Chair of Air Transport Technology and Logistics (🔗 https://lnkd.in/enkF8AqJ) and the Vodafone Chair in Mobile Communications Systems.
We also had the opportunity to present and discuss all our other current and exciting research topics relating to our research aircraft, ranging from zero-emission propulsion systems to structural modifications.
Using the flight simulator, we were able to teach people about the world of flying
A huge thank you goes to all the visitors and tech enthusiasts who made their way to see us. It was a thoroughly successful and enjoyable event, even if we all worked up quite a sweat in record-breaking temperatures of 41 °C! 🥵
Your keen interest and the brilliant conversations we had have shown us that, when it comes to fascinating aerospace research, people are willing to brave even the most extreme heat.
We’re already looking forward to the future and the continued development of the SML in Hoyerswerda! 🚀
