Automation will be an effective means of achieving the work performance of experienced machine operators in times of a shortage of skilled workers. The loading of a wheel loader is implemented as an exemplary process. Automatic bucket filling with a wheel loader is a demanding work process that has a major impact on productivity, efficiency and wear. In particular, the cut contour in the pile has a significant influence on energy consumption, tire wear and the loaded mass. Finding the optimal cutting contour and taking a variety of boundary conditions into account is an iterative process and requires an adaptive system.
