Module Design of Machine Tools
This is an elective module for the branch of study Production Engineering for the Diplom programme Mechanical Engineering as well as for the branch of study Production Engineering for the postgraduate course Mechanical Engineering.
The module consists of the lectures
- Fundamentals of product design
- Seminar: conceptual design of machine tools
- Project: design of a machine tool assembly
Through this module the students acquire fundamental knowledge, methodical abilities and practical proficiency to concept and design motion controlled machine systems using the example of machine tools. Thus the students gain basic skills to express marketing strategic objectives, to compile technical-economical concepts, to assess cost and benefit and to schedule a product design. Based on these abilities and the acquired knowledge they are able to formulate a technical-economical concept for a holistic product, i.e. a machine tool. Furthermore, built on that concept the students gain the capability to prepare detailed constructive production documentation of a selected product or assembly.
The module is offered every academic year during the summer semester and 7 credit points can be acquired. The module grade consists of the grade of the examination performance Minor Thesis.
