EUTOPIA Dresden International Summer School on Haptics and Cognitive Robotics for Music (HAPCOR for Music)for Music – Dresden, Sep 2–4
This EUTOPIA summer school targets an interdisciplinary audiencey, involving the fields of musical instruments, neuroscience, robotics, acoustics and haptics—ranging from hardware developers and music instrument builders to psychologists and interactive media researchers. Master’s students, PhD candidates, PostDocs, and science professionals are especially encouraged to apply, though the event is open to all with a strong interest in these dynamic areas.
This summer school places a strong focus on hands-on, research-based learning. In interdisciplinary teams, participants will collaboratively develop practical prototypes and artistic concepts, exploring the dynamic interface between performer, listener, and machine.
Key topics include:
-
Tangible musical instruments & novel haptic interfaces
-
Multimodal audio setups with tactile feedback
-
Sound and vibration synthesis technologies
-
Innovative hardware controllers, sensors & actuators
-
Cognitive robotics in interactive and adaptive installations
-
Psychological and perceptual mechanisms in musical interaction
-
Internet of Musical Things & immersive media production
Participants will engage in prototyping sessions, develop artistic-technical concepts, and reflect critically on human-centered design.
Participation is free of charge, including the in-person format. A partial travel grant is available (up to €400), covering travel and accommodation costs; applications are welcome particularly from Master’s students and early-stage researchers.
-
Application & grant deadline: July 13, 2025
-
Registration remains open beyond this date until the start of the event, but early application is advised.
