SLÄK online event "Gender-sensitive medicine"
The Saxon State Medical Association is offering an impulse event on 18.09.2024 (18-20.30, online) with the topic "Medicine for all? - Gender-sensitive medicine - quo vadis?" Lecturers Kerstin Schick, Carina Vorisek, Sabine Oertelt-Prigione and Anne Röhle will shed light on the 4 pillars of medicine - research, teaching, clinic and practice - in the context of "sex and gender" and show why there is still a need for research and action in all areas, and will give an outlook about what will be relevant in the future. In the context of gender-sensitive medicine, not only medical differences are addressed, but also problematic differences in dealing with patients due to unreflected stereotypical role models that is still reproduced in the medical studies: According to a report by the German Medical Women's Association e.V. on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Health from 2020, only 7.4% of medical faculties fully and longitudinally integrate sex and gender aspects into curricular teaching, 22.2% offer numerous courses with a focus on sex and gender, but 70.4% only offer individual courses.
The original movement, which aimed to improve women's health, has developed into an independent profession, which aims to provide improved and accessible medical care for people of all sex and gender. This is because neglecting gender and diversity issues leads to poorer care for patients of all genders. In this context, it is essential to provide comprehensive interdisciplinary and subject-specific training for teachers, practitioners and the young generation of medical professionals.
The event is free of charge and recognized with 3 continuing education points. You can register for participation at https://veranstaltungen.slaek.de/. For further information, please contact the Saxon State Medical Association by e-mail at or telephone 0351 8267 -327.
