Equal Opportunity
What does equal opportunity involve?
Equal opportunity and gender equality are overarching issues that affect all aspects of (professional) life. The Equal Opportunities Officers work to ensure fairness and equality in the university setting. The core of their work is providing advice and support at the Faculty when it comes to implementing gender equality as prescribed by law. They place focus on balancing the representation of genders at the various career levels and counteracting underrepresentation as well as increasing the proportion of women in executive and management committees at the Faculty. Furthermore, they work towards ensuring equality for all members of the Faculty beyond matters of gender, including all underrepresented or marginalized groups.
Tasks and rights of the Equal Opportunities Officers
The German Higher Education Framework Act (SRG) and the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG) provide the legal framework and task description for the office. Other aspects are also provided by the Act on the Advancement of Women in Saxony (SächsFFG). For work at the university, the Fundamental Principles, Election Regulations and Appointment Regulations of TU Dresden as well as the Faculty and School Regulations apply. Binding documents also include TU Dresden’s Equality Concept and Women’s Advancement Plan as well as the School of Medicine’s Equal Opportunity Plan. The following is a list of the most critical tasks and rights of the decentralized Equal Opportunities Officers:
- Member of the School or Faculty Board with the right to vote, speak and submit motions
- Advisory member of the “Equal Opportunities and Diversity Management” Standing Committee of the Senate with the right to speak and submit motions
- Analysis of the current state of affairs of equal opportunity at the School or Faculty
