New publication in Cancers

Dr. Michael Seifert, head of the Bioinformatics Core Unit, has published a new article on „Molecular Characterization of Astrocytoma Progression Towards Secondary Glioblastomas Utilizing Patient-Matched Tumor Pairs“ in Cancers in close collaboration with project partners from Dresden and Luxembourg.

We analyzed multi-omics profiles of patient-matched astrocytoma pairs of initial and recurrent tumors from 22 patients and identified molecular signatures associated with the progression to secondary glioblastomas. Astrocytoma progression groups were distinguished by signaling pathway signatures affecting cell division, interaction and differentiation. Astrocytoma progression groups also differed in the mutation frequencies of IDH1, TP53, and MUC4. Overall, patient-matched astrocytomas can differ substantially within and between patients. Revealed molecular progression signatures should be analyzed for their potential clinical relevance in future studies.
