Elective course on "Computational Cell Biology"
The course on "Computational Cell Biology" is an elective part of the module “Computational Life Science Advanced”, primarily intended for 3rdsemester students of the Computational Life Science track.
It is the primary aim of the course to introduce students to modeling techniques relevant to study different phenomena in cell biology and demonstrate their applications. The course is designed as an instrument that requires active participation of the students. This encompasses three parts, which is reading, practicing and presenting. For this reason, the weekly meetings are structured such that first the results from the previous assignments are presented and discussed by the students, before proceeding with new concepts and methods.
Contents:
- nonlinear dynamics and bifurcations
- biochemical reactions
- biology and mathematics of gene regulation
- molecular switches
- stochastic formalism
- biological oscillators
- research topics
The course is structured as lecture part (2 SWS) and a corresponding seminar part (2 SWS). Both parts are scheduled on Friday mornings throughout the winter term.
The first meeting will be held on Oct. 18th, 2024, 9:20am at B-CUBE, Tatzberg 41, room E75. For participating in the course, please enroll officially via SELMA. We organize and communicate all necessary details via the OPAL platform. You have to register to the course ID 45823623168 in order to receive all materials and detailed information.
The examination will be an oral presentation ("Referat") of 30 minutes (20 mins talk + 10 mins Q+A) at the end of the semester.
Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Ingmar Glauche, Dr. Friedemann Uschner
