World Diabetes Day: Researchers at PLID Engage with Community
Yesterday, November 14, marked World Diabetes Day, a day designated by the WHO and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) to raise awareness about the rising number of diabetes cases worldwide. The researchers at the Paul Langerhans Institute Dresden (PLID) of Helmholtz Munich at the University Hospital and the Carl Gustav Carus Medical Faculty of TU Dresden took advantage of this opportunity to engage with the community.
The PLID team set up an information booth on the campus of the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus, where they provided valuable information on the prevalence, prevention, symptoms, and treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Visitors had the chance to meet experienced diabetes researchers and ask their questions directly, as well as learn about the current research projects being conducted by PLID scientists and doctors to improve the lives of people with diabetes.
One of the highlights of the event was the interactive "DIfE German Diabetes Risk Test(R)", which allowed visitors to determine their individual diabetes risk on site. The event also featured special guests, including Sabine Rösler, Representative of Lions Club Dresden, and Dr. V Mohan, Chairman of the managing board of the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF), who joined several of his colleagues to visit Dresden and to share their expertise and raise awareness about diabetes.
The event was a great success, with many visitors taking advantage of the opportunity to learn more about diabetes and connect with the PLID community. As the researchers at PLID noted, "Today reminds us of the importance of education in preventing and managing diabetes—empowering individuals with knowledge is the first step towards a healthier future."
