Discover microbiology – offers for schools and the public

Microbes are tiny organisms that are only visible under a microscope. These microorganisms are omnipresent and influence our lives far more than one might assume at first glance. At the Chair of General Microbiology at TU Dresden, we make this hidden world visible and tangible. Through exhibitions, hands-on activities, workshops and events, we open up our research to schoolchildren, teachers and the interested public. Whether through interactive projects such as ‘Bakteriopolis’, hands-on experiments or discussions with researchers, we offer you the opportunity to experience microbiology up close.

Insight into research on microbes

Microbes were the first living creatures on earth, and yet they have an image problem: you can't see them and they are associated with diseases as "germs". In the video, microbiologist Lena explains why bacteria are actually real all-rounders. In order to survive adverse conditions, they engage in cannibalism, for example. The PhD student is investigating this phenomenon in more detail.
