Higher alcohol taxes could save lives – how effectively higher alcohol prices could benefit public health has been modelled in a 2021 study involving scientists of TU Dresden. Biology in Society students created this song to sum up the paper´s contents.
As part of the Master´s course Biology in Society, students learn a hands-on approach to science communication. Based on scientific papers students have come up with creative ways of sharing each paper´s key points. In this song Biology in Society students Karl Altstadt, Gabriel Pinto & Sebastian Pötzsch have captured the contents of a paper on alcohol taxation and public health benefits. The 2021 paper “Modelling the impact of increased alcohol taxation on alcohol-attributable cancers in the WHO European Region” involving the TU Dresden, has found that higher alcohol taxes could save thousands of lives.
