We are interested in optimizing and understanding photo-electrocatalytic energy conversion reactions. In order to identify universal principles in the activation of oxygen, hydrogen or carbon dioxide we investigate enzymatic, molecular and material based systems. In our research approach we combine electrochemical techniques with operando vibrational spectroscopy, which gives functional, structural and often complementary information on the system of interest. These research topics are investigated within the CRC 1415 “Chemistry of 2 dimensional materials” and the cluster of excellence “UniSysCat”.
We are also interested in further developing electrode systems for surface enhanced Raman and IR spectro-electrochemistry. Here we are looking at new materials and morphologies as well as the influence of light enhancement on photocatalysis.
