Subproject C02
Effects of Mechanical Strain on the Structure and Properties of 2D Materials and their Heterostructures
The project will study the electronic, optical, and transport properties of 2DMs and heterostructures under the influence of strain fields using density functional theory (DFT)-based methods. The project will focus on the influence of strain on mono-and multilayer systems. In multilayer samples, different strain states within the single layers can be used to break certain symmetries such as the inversion symmetry in bilayer 2H-WSe2. This will enable the switching between different transport channels and/or allow for the tuning of the valley degree of freedom. Furthermore, strain-depending vibrational properties and topological phase transitions will be addressed in this project.
