Practical Course on Databases

Overview
The practical course “Usage of the electronic databases” is a part of the study programmes Chemistry/Bachelor (module FQ – interdisciplinary qualification) and Food Chemistry/Diploma.
The practical training occurs during the non-lecture period of the 3. Semester (March) in the divided groups as a one-week course.
The goal is the mediation of the practical knowledge and the intensive practicing the handling of the electronic research system, search strategies, logical operators as well as the transfer of the information between different database systems.
The following database systems are used:
- The interface SciFinder – databases CA, REGISTRY, CASREACT, MEDLINE
- The interface Reaxys – databases BEILSTEIN, GMELIN
Prerequisites for the participation
The prerequisite for participation is proven knowledge in the course Computer applications in chemistry.
