International Research & Teaching
The School of Science is intensifying its networking with selected international partners with the aim of promoting research collaborations and achieving top research results. A significant aspect of these endeavors is the invitation of internationally renowned scientists who have shaped their field of expertise with excellent research.

Project and research funding
Internationality thrives on exchange and collaborations. The School of Science at TU Dresden sees it as its task to maintain and further develop teaching and research at the highest international level. TU Dresden promotes international exchange with targeted programs.
The European Project Center provides advice regarding European programs for research funding, education and third-country collaborations as well as funding from structural funds. The team has extensive knowledge of EU funding policy and of the individual programs and measures for implementation. In addition to providing advice on funding, the key competencies lie in administrative project management. In this way, ideas can be successfully transformed into projects.
Details are available at European programs for the promotion of research - European Project Center.
The transCampus of TU Dresden and King’s College London is a transnational strategic partnership involving two elite universities with joint deans, professors, and administrative structures.
The transCampus funding program aims to strengthen the collaboration between King's College London and Technische Universität Dresden, and therefore supports initiatives that set in motion or expand various forms of cooperation.
Details are available at transCampus funding program.
Through the Lab2Lab program, the Graduate Academy of TU Dresden promotes the exchange and joint cooperation of early career scientists on the basis of international collaborations between working groups. The goal is to combine acquiring intercultural skills and international experience with scientific competence enhancement, transfer of know-how, the opportunity for international networking and career planning.
Details are available at Lab2Lab – Graduate Academy of TU Dresden.
Programs for the invitation and mobility of scientists
TU Dresden supports the invitation of international scientists to TUD for a guest lectureship or collaboration:
The Dresden Fellowship Program focuses on inviting international scientists to conduct joint research and teaching at TU Dresden.
The program aims at boosting collaborations and initiating long-term strategic projects with institutions and working groups at TU Dresden and its DRESDEN-concept partners.
Details are available at Dresden Fellowship Program.
The Eleonore Trefftz Program makes possible rotating guest visits to TU Dresden of women scientists who independently represent their subject in teaching and research at the respective Faculty. The program serves to promote careers for women on their path to a professorship.
Details are available at Eleonore-Trefftz-Program.
As part of the Excellence Strategy of the German Federal and State Governments,
TU Dresden promotes – in the shape of GET TU KNOW as an instrument of active recruitment – the acquisition of excellent scientists.
One component of this measure is the invitation of potential applicants to symposia, conferences and colloquia in the run-up to professorial vacancy notices, with a second component being the support of applicants during the personal interviews involved in the professorial procedure.
Details are available at GET TU KNOW.
The Eastern Partnership Program strengthens and promotes cooperative relations between German universities and universities in Central Eastern, Eastern and Southeastern Europe as well as the countries of the South Caucasus and Central Asia by promoting mobility. In this way, it contributes to the expansion of international relationships through education and research, to the dissemination and promotion of the German language abroad, to the promotion of intercultural dialog between people, and to crisis and conflict management.
Funding is available for short study and research stays. The purpose of these stays is to strengthen or initiate collaborations between (early career) scientists of TU Dresden and the partner universities in Central and Eastern Europe. Moreover, during the stay, research-related work can be carried out in archives, university libraries and university-associated institutes.
Every year, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation grants Humboldt Research Awards to internationally recognized researchers from abroad, thereby honoring the overall work to date of these leading researchers. Researchers abroad from all disciplines and all countries can be nominated for the Humboldt Research Award. The award winners are also invited to carry out research projects of their choosing in Germany, in cooperation with their peers.
Details are available at Humboldt Research Awards.
Through the Humboldt Research Fellowships for postdocs and experienced researchers, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation enables academics from abroad with above-average qualifications - who completed their doctorates no longer than 4 years ago (for postdocs) or 12 years ago (for experienced researchers) - to embark on long-term research stays (6 to 24 months) in Germany. Details of the research project, including information on the planned duration of the fellowship must be agreed with the intended host prior to application.
Details are available at Humboldt Research Fellowships.
In tandem with the Philipp Schwartz Initiative, TU Dresden supports scientists at risk with a full fellowship for 24 months. TUD was successful in the 2nd and 4th rounds of applications. The Philipp Schwartz Initiative was launched by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation together with the German Federal Foreign Office and allows universities, universities of applied sciences and non-university research institutions in Germany to award fellowships for research stays to researchers at risk.
The DRESDEN-concept Welcome Center at TU Dresden is responsible for submitting the applications from TUD as well as for handling the projects. It also provides support for the hosts and scientists.
Details are available at Philipp Schwartz Initiative for Scientists at Risk.
