This project is devoted to the development and application of new methods to simulate and detect strongly correlated topological phases. First, the tensor network ansatz will be employed to study experimentally relevant models for frustrated magnetic materials. Second, the flexibility of artificial neural networks will be harnessed to construct new variational states, which are in particular capable of capturing long-ranged quantum correlations. Regarding the detection of topological phases, experimental signatures in the thermal Hall conductance of correlated and disordered systems as well as fingerprints of fractional excitations in spectral functions will be identified.
