Boris M. Velichkovsky (1947-2022)
Our long-time colleague, Boris M. Velichkovsky, passed away on January 5 as a result of a stroke. Before Boris Velichkovsky founded the professorship of Engineering Psychology at TU Dresden in 1994, he worked in Leipzig, Moscow, Toronto and Bielefeld. During his 20 years of service at TU Dresden, he developed engineering psychology into an integral part of the Faculty of Psychology. This included numerous scientific publications, participation in and leadership of national and international interdisciplinary research projects, and training of students and junior scientists. He also served as a senior professor at the TU Dresden until 2019. He died at the age of 74 and is survived by his wife, 2 children and 5 grandchildren.
We mourn the loss of an outstanding colleague whose enthusiasm was a constant inspiration to students and colleagues. Psychology loses a personality whose work combined innovative experimental research with the development of profound and original theories. His research reached far beyond the boundaries of engineering psychology into many areas of psychology and related disciplines. His dedication, positive worldview, and confidence in good scientific research will be missed.
