Application - for students of the TU Dresden

The online application is submitted via the online application portal. The portal is activated once per academic year for a limited period, in each case from 1 July (8 a.m) - 15 July (midnight, end of the date).

Additional Info:

• Before you begin with your application, you must create an account that you can use to log in to the system at any time using your password.

• You can safe your application any time and continue to process it later. For the application to be valid, however, you must send it within the deadline.

• The fields marked with a star * are mandatory.

• Use the drop-down menu at the top of the page to toggle between the different form parts.

• Attachments can be uploaded as PDF (maximum 2 Mb) only.

In the online application form, the application documents must be uploaded under the appropriate sections. Please upload your documents in PDF format in the appropriate "Browse" field. The data volume per upload must not exceed 2 MB. Please submit your letter of motivation and CV for privacy reasons, i.e. with your name only, but without address, telephone number, e-mail address, matriculation number and date of birth.
The following documents must be attached:

APPLICATION PAPERS

• Declaration to Participate (Please fill in the web form in the application phase and upload the confirmation email as pdf file to the appropriate place in the application portal - Link in the application portal)

• Current Confirmation of Enrolment for the summer semester or for applicants the application for admission

• Motivation letter (only one page, only with name; Helpful hints for writing the motivation letter)

• CV in tabular form (only with name, photo optional)

• Certificates or overview of grades:

a. in the case of applicants for the first semester, the higher education/university entrance qualification.

b. for students the last highest qualification and the current grade overview with all grades (not older than May 2026).

c. in the case of foreign certificates, an officially certified translation into German or English or a uni-assist certificate and a transcript of records stating the university's grading system.

Your grade point average must be in the range of 1.0 and 2.5 on the german grading system in order to apply.

• Further references - If possible, please complete your application with evidence on the following criteria:

  • Prizes and awards as well as sporting, social and societal, political, artistic and cultural and/or academic and professional engagement (not older than 2 years!).
    Each engagement must be verified by a letter of reference—the date and number of hours worked per week/month must be included and signed by the responsible supervisors. You can find an example here.

  • conditions that have adversely affected your educational biography (caring for relatives, orphan status, raising children, first-time graduate, illness, disability, migration or refugee status...).
    Each condition must be verified with a document.

  • Employment alongside studies (not older than 2 years!).
    Proof required in the form of an employment contract specifying the contract term and number of hours per week/month.

  • Professional qualifications, employment references or letters of recommendation relevant to the application.
    (Recommended format for letters of recommendation: Brief introduction of the writer and their role, reason for writing the letter, description of the applicant's activities, assessment of soft skills and working methods, emphasizing the applicant's suitability for the scholarship. The letter of recommendation should not exceed two pages.)

• Only students and university applicants of the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape additionally submit a portfolio by post (TU Dresden, Deutschlandstipendium, Helmholtzstr. 10, 01069 Dresden) or in person (Nöthnitzer Str. 69, Room 105). • ONLY students of Medicine/Dentistry who are currently completing their doctorate should also submit a confirmation from their supervisor with a brief statement on the status of their work and the time already invested.

Please note: Information that has not been verified will not be included in the evaluation. Therefore, make sure you obtain the relevant references and proof in time.

If you have not received your school-leaving certificate before the application deadline, you can also apply for a Deutschlandstipendium at the TU Dresden without the certificate and the confirmation of the online application. Please note the following in the application form:

• Please enter a '0' in the field "Matriculation number or applicant number".
• Upload a statement with the following content instead of the online application confirmation:
  • Course of study and degree for which you will apply (only one entry possible)
  • Date when the remaining documents for the application can be submitted later

• Instead of the school-leaving certificate, you can upload a provisional grade certificate from your school or the half-year report card

Please note that you must submit the required documents (application confirmation, school leaving certificate) as soon as possible.

If you have just applied for the upcoming winter semester at the TU Dresden, you do not have an enrolment number or a confirmation of enrolment. In this case, instead of the confirmation of enrolment, upload the acceptance letter, the online application form or - in NC programmes – the confirmation of the online application. In the declaration to participate you must enter your application number instead of the enrolment number.

If a parallel funding is possible, depends on the amount paid and the scholarship scheme. Students, who already receive funding on the basis of achievement exceeding the monthly limit of 30 Euro, are not eligible for the Deutschlandstipendium. Recipients sponsored by Begabtenförderungswerke (the organisation for the promotion of young talent) have to waive the financial support if they wish to be eligible for a Deutschlandstipendium. Students who have been awarded a full DAAD scholarship cannot simultaneously hold a Deutschlandstipendium since both scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and potential. However, if you receive a partial DAAD scholarship (e.g., Erasmus), this does not exclude you from the Deutschlandstipendium.

If you stay abroad through the ERASMUS programme, the payment of the Deutschlandstipendium continues even if you receive a mobility grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) at the same time.

Yes, you can also apply if you finish your studies sooner or if you will not be enrolled for a full year. Please indicate in the application form at the relevant point when you expect to complete your studies.

You can be funded by the Deutschlandstipendium within the standard period of study for your degree program. If you exceed your standard period of study, you can still apply, but you must justify the extension of the standard period of study in the application portal in the appropriate place.

You can upload expert reports, letters of recommendation and other references under "Further references". We do not have any formal requirements. You are welcome to follow the general guidelines: Brief introduction of yourself and function of the writer, why is the letter being issued, your job description (if you work as a SHK at the Institute), evaluation of your soft skills and working methods, emphasis on your suitability for the scholarship. The letter of recommendation should not be longer than 2 pages.

University entrance qualifications (e.g. Abitur certificate) and degree certificates (apprenticeship, Bachelor's degree certificate, first degree certificate, etc.) can be uploaded to the relevant section of the application portal.

Proof of ECTS credits or grades already achieved during your studies can be provided by downloading an overview from the study portal, which should be up-to-date (preferably not older than 2 months before uploading the documents). An overview can also be provided by the relevant Examination Office as an officially certified document; however, an uncertified document is also sufficient for the application.

If you do not yet have any grades for your current degree program, please write a letter explaining why this is the case. You can then upload this to the application portal where the overview of grades is located.

For foreign certificates, please submit a copy of the officially certified translation in German or English and a transcript of records stating the university's grading system.

All documents that you upload when applying must be in German or English. Translate the documents written in another language. For foreign certificates, please upload an officially certified translation into German or English and, if necessary, a transcript of records indicating the grading system of the university.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to say just how high the chances of a Deutschlandstipendium are from every single applicant. Basically, about five applicants come on a scholarship. The criteria include performance (grades), social commitment as well as special personal and family circumstances. Ultimately, the selection committee decides what is of particular importance to them and which applicants should be supported. The entire selection process can be found in our FAQ.

You will be informed of the outcome of your application around mid-October. Please refrain from enquiring about your application status until then. Please also make sure that we have your current e-mail and postal address by then. If you are accepted, you will then have 14 days to accept the scholarship.
