Application - for students of the TU Dresden
The application period for the academic year 2020/21 has been over since mid-July. You are welcome to apply for a Deutschlandstipendium in July 2021. We publish all information on this page.
Enrolled students and university applicants of the TU Dresden can apply for the Deutschlandstipendium, regardless of nationality and previous educational achievements. Applicants must be enrolled at TU Dresden when the funding period starts, i.e. with the beginning winter semester, and must be within the standard period of studies (exceptions are possible).
You receive the scholarship irrespective of your other income or your parents’ income. It is not credited against the BAföG and social insurance contributions are not payable on the funding. Moreover, the scholarship is not a loan that needs to be repaid.
The scholarship funding gives you the chance to focus completely on your studies and your social commitment. After one year, you can submit an extension application.
Application Procedure
The application for a Deutschlandstipendium is exclusively online. Only if the application is sent correctly with all associated attachments within the deadline of the application portal, it is valid and will be processed. Due to the large number of applications, the receipt of the documents can not be confirmed immediately. We request that you refrain from asking us to do so.
The online application is submitted via the online application portal provided by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The portal is activated once per academic year for a limited period, in each case from 1 July (10:00) - 15 July (24:00).

The regulation for the awarding of scholarships regulate the implementation of the law for the creation of a national scholarship program and the regulation for the implementation of the scholarship program law at the TU Dresden. Just read in for information. Please also refer to our FAQ, in particular regarding the exclusion rules of the scholarship regarding leave of absence.
Frequently asked questions about the application
Corona initially has no influence on the application for a Deutschlandstipendium. The application period from 1-15 July 2020 remains unchanged.
We are aware that many students face special challenges due to the current situation. We always try to find flexible solutions, especially when dealing with application documents. If you have difficulties in obtaining the required documents, you can still submit them after the application period by e-mail until August 21, 2020. In this case, please use the comments field at the end of the online application or, in the case of mandatory fields, upload an explanation as a PDF file and briefly describe your situation to us.
If you exceed your standard period of study due to current circumstances at Corona, please inform us in the online form in the section "Exceeding the standard period of study". For this reason you will not be excluded from the selection process.
We are also aware that many students are unable to take their exams as normal or that exams already taken are not listed in the grade overview. We will also be flexible in our selection process.
These special circumstances should not deter you from applying. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any time, preferably by e-mail or in our chat on Tuesdays from 9-10 am.
Yes, you can also apply if you finish your studies sooner or if you will not be enrolled for a full year. Please state the reasons for exceeding the standard period of study in the "Standard period of study" section of the application form.
If a parallel funding is possible, depends on the amount paid and the scholarship scheme. Students, who already receive funding on the basis of achievement exceeding the monthly limit of 30 Euro, are not eligible for the Deutschlandstipendium. Recipients sponsored by Begabtenförderungswerke (the organisation for the promotion of young talent) have to waive the financial support if they wish to be eligible for a Deutschlandstipendium. We have compiled an overview of the current funding schemes that are compatible with the Deutschlandstipendium. Scholarships that are compatible with the Deutschlandstipendium and those which are not, are listed here: Overview of parallel scholarships.
Students who have been awarded a full DAAD scholarship cannot simultaneously hold a Deutschlandstipendium since both scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and potential. However, if you receive a partial DAAD scholarship (e.g., Erasmus), this does not exclude you from the Deutschlandstipendium.
If you stay abroad through the ERASMUS programme, the payment of the Deutschlandstipendium continues even if you receive a mobility grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) at the same time.
If you have just applied for the winter semester 20/21 at the TU Dresden, you do not have an enrolment number or a confirmation of enrolment. In this case, instead of the confirmation of enrolment, upload the acceptance letter, the online application form or - in NC programmes – a copy of the confirmation of the online application. In the declaration to participate you must enter your application number instead of the enrolment number.
You can upload advisory opinions, letters of recommendation and other references under "Other references". They do not have to correspond to any particular shape. It is up to you which references you consider suitable for the application
All documents that you upload when applying must be in German or English. Translate the documents written in another language. For foreign certificates, please upload an officially certified translation into German or English and, if necessary, a transcript of records indicating the grading system of the university.
If you do not yet have credit points (ECTS) and/or grades are not listed on your attestation of academic achievments, please contact your examination office for an overview. If you also get no information about your credit points there, please enter "0" when applying and attach a document with an informal message.
In some cases, credit points are not awarded during the first semesters of study (e.g. medicine). In this case, also write "0" in the relevant fields and attach performance certificates or a document with an informal message.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to say just how high the chances of a Deutschlandstipendium are from every single applicant. Basically, about five applicants come on a scholarship. The criteria include performance (grades), social commitment as well as special personal and family circumstances. Ultimately, the selection committee decides what is of particular importance to them and which applicants should be supported. The entire selection process can be found in our FAQ.
