Qualification of Writing Tutors
What do Writing Tutors do at the Writing Centre?
Writing tutors primarily support students in individual writing consultations on questions concerning their writing process - from the initial idea to the final text - and provide text feedback on writing projects. In addition, they can be involved in various areas of the Writing Centre's activities, e.g.
- contributing own ideas and creativity to the concept of our offers and events,
- initiating and guiding writing groups,
- developing handouts for academic writing,
- participating in the Long Night Against Procrastination and the Writing Marathon.
How do I become a Writing Tutor at the Writing Centre?
Once or twice a year, the Writing Centre advertises positions for student assistants, which students of all disciplines can apply for. The future Writing Tutors will be thoroughly qualified to assist students in their writing process:
- they will learn the basics of process-oriented didactics of writing,
- they reflect on their own approaches when writing an academic text,
- they deal with the individual phases and challenges of the writing process,
- they expand their knowledge of writing strategies/techniques,
- they create a method suitcase,
- they learn how to give advice on writing and
- they practice consulting and feedback methods.
They are introduced systematically to their work as writing tutors through observations, trial consultations and evaluations.
A certificate is awarded after successfully completing the qualification.
During their work at the Writing Centre, the writing tutors are evaluated on a regular basis, exchange their experiences in the Writing Advisory Colloquium, take part in continuing training courses and thus continue to develop their skills.
The Writing Centre is oriented towards the general concept for the qualification of writing tutors of the Society for Writing Didactics and Writing Research (German: Gesellschaft für Schreibdidaktik und Schreibforschung) : http://www.schreibdidaktik.de/images/Downloads/RahmenkonzepPeerSchreibtutor_innenausbildg.pdf.
