Teaching Center for Well-Being and Movement

Teaching Center for Physical therapy
Since May 10, 2021, TU Dresden has joined forces with the Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital Dresden to operate the Teaching Center for Well-Being and Movement with additional support from the Studentenwerk Dresden (Student Union).
This unique collaborative project between TUD University Health Management (UGM) and the Carus Akadamie is the only one of its kind in all of Germany – a true innovation in physical therapist training. Third-year students at the Carus Akademie receive a portion of their training in occupational medicine and preventive healthcare at the Teaching Center under the supervision and guidance of physical therapy instructors from the Carus Akademie and the staff of TUD’s Occupational Health Services.
Training at the teaching practice at TU Dresden is beneficial to participants in many ways, as it seeks to impart holistic competence in administering physical therapy. This new facility functions as a skills lab, linking theoretical knowledge with practical instruction and bridging the gap between the vocational college and hands-on medical care, for instance at clinics. It is based on the so-called skills lab concept: In the protected space of the teaching practice and under constant expert supervision, the trainees can learn and gain experience in a realistic working environment through practical work with patients. This applies both to therapeutic work and to the daily organizational duties at a physical therapy practice. Since the teaching facility operates under the umbrella of the University Health Management, it offers unique insights into a central, future-oriented fields of medicine: occupational medicine and preventive healthcare.
The project also offers direct benefits to employees of TU Dresden. In the future, you will be able to take advantage of physical therapy services at the teaching center or even right at your desk. These services include an individualized physical therapy (PT) screening, consultation and instruction in PT and movement training.
The practice is open from Monday to Friday. It is mandatory to make an appointment.
Please call or email the practice to schedule your personal consultation appointment!
