­Form follows function: Sustainability as topic and mode of the DGfE conference "Education, Democracy and Sustainability" at the TUD

From 23 to 25 September 2025, the annual conference of the DGfE Commission "Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)" took place at TU Dresden under the title "Education, Democracy & Sustainability" - organized by the Chair of Nutrition and Home Economics / Vocational Didactics.

Sustainability was not only the central theme of the conference, but also shaped the entire organization of the event. From the selection of the low-barrier venue "Kino im Kasten", which is easily accessible by public transport, to vegan/vegetarian organic catering and low-waste implementation, the conference was consistently planned and implemented in a sustainable manner - in close cooperation with the Green Office and the TUD's Environmental Protection Group. A special highlight was the award for the most climate-friendly journey. The winner was a participant who had traveled by train from Italy.

The conference impressively demonstrated how scientific content and sustainable event organization can be successfully combined - a result of the dedicated organization team of the Chair of Nutrition and Home Economics / Vocational Didactics in cooperation with the Green Office and the Environmental Protection Group of TU Dresden.
