“DO it NOW“: TUD and HTWD are jointly hosting the Sustainability Week from June 15 – 19, 2026
TUD Dresden University of Technology (TUD) and the University of Applied Sciences Dresden (HTWD) invite you to their joint Sustainability Week from June 15 to 19, 2026. Under the motto “Do it NOW,” both universities are combining their activities focused on ecological, social, and economic sustainability by presenting a diverse and free program for university staff as well as the interested public from Dresden and beyond.
Free program with selected highlights
Monday, June 15, 2026, begins with the joint Sustainable Coffee Hour, a networking event for city stakeholders in the field of sustainability. You can participate in a hands-on activity to make stylish bags from old event materials.
On Tuesday, June 16, 2926, there will be an opportunity to attend lectures and workshops on topics such as tips and tricks for reducing digital waste, non- violent communication, and food sharing. Students will present a project on cooling islands in urban areas, an exhibition on sustainable building structures will be on display, and the Repair Café on campus will open its doors to all. In addition, there will be an event exploring the question of how sustainable the use of artificial intelligence (AI) actually is.
On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the lawn behind the Auditorium Center will become a place filled with music, culture, and community engagement for the university-wide holiday “dies academicus.” A special lecture “Sustainability made in Saxony” will focus on innovative resource utilization from sewage sludge.
On Thursday, June 18, 2026, starting at 10:00 am, all interested parties are invited to a free breakfast, “Bildungshappen & Zukunftsplausch” (Bits'n Pieces – Snacks & Chat), on the lawn behind the Auditorium Center (HSZ) to engage in conversation with stakeholders in the fields of education, nutrition, and sustainability—including arche NoVa e. V., Cambio, Volkshochschule Dresden, Lokale Agenda Dresden, BUND, and aha – anders handeln e. V., organized by the TUD Green Office in collaboration with Foodsharing and the Saxony Consumer Advice Center. Visitors will gain insights into a sustainable new building on campus, experience creative upcycling and Raspberry Pi projects made from recycled materials, and can work together to repair broken everyday items at the Repair Café. The program is complemented by a dialogue forum on sustainable experiences from the GDR as well as interactive formats aimed at strengthening democratic skills.
Friday, June 19, 2026, will combine practical engagement with academic insights: During a joint cleanup, participants will take a stand against environmental pollution, before a joint closing event hosted by HTWD and TUD starting at 2:00 pm brings Sustainability Week to a close at the Bärengarten on Helmholtzstraße.
In addition, guests can look forward to movie nights, clothing swap events, and interactive stations on political education throughout the week, which will complete the program.
