Open Monument Day 2025: Guided tours of the historical dye collection

Open Monument Day 2025
As part of Germany's nationwide Open Monument Day, the Office for Academic Heritage, Scientific and Art Collections of TUD Dresden University of Technology will present its globally unique dye collection in the König Building on September 14, 2025. Built in 1926 by Martin Dülfer, the laboratory for color and textile chemistry still houses an outstanding scientific treasure: the university's historical dye collection.

Blick in die Farbstoffsammlung
With more than 20,000 natural and synthetic dyes - some dating back to the 1830s - rare color sample cards and theses with original color samples, it is a unique research and teaching resource in Europe. Housed in a two-storey collection room with light-proof original cabinets, it is directly adjacent to the lecture hall and preparation room. Together with Walter König's laboratory and the original preserved interior elements, the building impressively documents the combination of academic heritage, scientific specialization and listed architecture.
On Open Monument Day, the Office for Academic Heritage, Scientific and Art Collections offers guided tours of the dye collection. Rregistration is not required.
