Focus on semiconductor partnerships: TUD delegation including Rector Prof. Ursula Staudinger accompanies Saxony's Minister President on trip to Asia
Active partnership to intensify research, teaching, and transfer in semiconductor technologies: A delegation from TUD Dresden University of Technology – including Rector Prof. Ursula Staudinger – is part of the representatives of the Free State of Saxony on Minister President Michael Kretschmer's current trip to Asia. The delegation will remain in Asia until October 5.
To kick off the trip, TUD and the Saxon Ministry of Science are hosting the Saxony-Taiwan Science Conference in Taipei on September 30. The focus will be on issues relating to the future production of high-performance electronics.
As part of the conference, TUD and the renowned Taiwanese National Institutes of Applied Research (NIAR) will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The event will conclude with a press conference by the Rector and Saxony's Minister of Science, Sebastian Gemkow.

Unterzeichung des Memorandum of Understanding: Prof. Ursula Staudinger mit einem Vertreter der taiwanesischen National Institutes of Applied Research.
Minister of Science Sebastian Gemkow: Saxony has a unique research environment as well as strong and multifaceted academic training programs for professionals in the semiconductor sector. This is highly appealing to major investors such as Taiwan's largest semiconductor manufacturer TSMC, Infineon, GlobalFoundries, and other companies. In Europe, we need these collaborations in order to remain competitive on a global scale and regain greater technological sovereignty. To this end, we require close relationships between our brightest minds in science. Thanks to the dedicated commitment of TU Dresden and all its partners in Saxony and Taiwan, this has been achieved with outstanding success in a very short time."
Prof. Ursula Staudinger: "With our trip to Asia, we want to reinforce our strategic partnerships in research, transfer, and skilled worker training for microelectronics – especially in semiconductor research and chip design. As a University of Excellence, we are delighted to host the Saxony-Taiwan Science Conference in Taipei, where leading representatives from politics, science, and industry will discuss the future of semiconductor manufacturing. Here, we contribute our expertise in cutting-edge research as well as our experience in academic education, for instance in the Semiconductor Talent Incubation Program Taiwan, which was developed jointly with TSMC."
The program also includes meetings with members and alumni of the Saxon Science Ambassador Program (SSAP): "We are also strengthening our local alumni network and look forward to meeting representatives from the renowned Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. In line with our collaborative approach, we are building bridges that sustainably connect research, innovation, and the promotion of early-career researchers, while at the same time raising TUD’s international profile," says the Rector.
Other stops on the Asia trip include participation in the celebrations for German Unity Day and the 25th anniversary of the German Institute in Taiwan, a visit to the German Pavilion at the Expo in Osaka (Japan), and the celebrations for German Unity Day at the German Center in Singapore.
