TUD|Honors for exceptional commitment and outstanding service to the university
During a formal ceremony held on Friday, May 8, 2026 in the Rectorate Ballroom, TUD Dresden University of Technology honored distinguished individuals for their exceptional commitment and service to the university.
Once a year, TUD|Honors bring our university community together to recognize members of our university for their exceptional individual dedication, which is driven by s shared vision and courage to stand up for their own ideas for the benefit of TUD and to overcome obstacles. Some are highly visible, while others work more behind the scene. But what unites them all is the lasting impact they've had on life and work at our university. We need role models who show us that personal commitment makes a huge difference, and that together we can shape and advance our TUD, no matter how large she may be,” said Rector Prof. Ursula M. Staudinger during the ceremony.
TUD Medal of Honor awarded to Prof. Wolfgang E. Nagel:
During his nearly three decades at TUD, Prof. Wolfgang E. Nagel has made an outstanding contribution to the university’s digital transformation and strategic development. His achievements—from founding the Center for Information Services and High Performance Computing (ZIH) to establishing the ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig competence center, and helping create the Center for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences (CIDS)—are of lasting significance for TUD and the German research landscape.en/Leipzig Competence Center and the Center for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences (CIDS) – are of lasting significance for TUD and the German research landscape.

The following individuals were awarded the Badge of Honor of TUD:
- The Services Disability and Studies Group led by Prof. Gerhard Weber (Chair), Laura Herzog, Jens Voegler, and Anja Winkler, for their highly specialized technical and advisory support for students and staff alike.
- Katharina Hunger, for her innovative Student Marketing in STEM fields, for raising awareness among young people about taking responsibility for the challenges of the present, and for her promotion of knowledge transfer to society.
- Franziska Kossatz, for her commitment to the TU Environmental Initiative (tuuwi) and her involvement in university and political bodies at both regional and state levels.
- Prof. Viktor Mechtcherine, for his contributions to sustainable and digitalized construction methods and their resulting innovation and international impact.
- Marius Schiller, for his tireless dedication and strategic vision in advancing sustainable mobility for TUD students.
- Tammo Schmitt for his active role in shaping academic life in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and his commitment to the student council, the faculty, and the department.
