Netiquette: TU Dresden’s commenting rules
We are delighted that our posts and topics inspire social media users to engage in discussion. In principle, any and all feedback is welcome. This is precisely why we attach great importance to ensuring that everyone who takes part in a discussion can express themselves freely and that no one is excluded. It is therefore essential that contributions remain constructive and factual, even in the face of differences of opinion. Exchanges should always be purposeful and objective.
Please note the following rules:
- Treat others as you would like to be treated. Always remain objective, constructive and fair by addressing other users politely and respectfully.
- Comments should be related to the subject of the post.
- Personal attacks, insults with regard to religion, background, nationality, physical condition, sexual identity, political view, age, sex or gender as well as slander, accusations and provocation are not permissible.
- We will not tolerate any posts or comments with vulgar, offensive or defamatory content. Swear words do not contribute to factual discussion and you should refrain from using them.
- Discriminatory, hateful content that glorifies or incites violence is also prohibited. This includes anti-constitutional, racist and sexist statements as well as libel against minorities or people with certain limitations or disabilities.
- Advertising, religious or politically-oriented content, and referencing external content that has nothing to do with the topic at hand is not permitted.
- Publishing private correspondence (e.g. letters or emails) is forbidden.
- Comments that have been generated automatically/machine-generated (e.g. by bots) or that are clearly part of a campaign are not permitted.
- Be sure to preserve the personality rights of third parties. Speculation about other users, their motives or personal histories have nothing to do with the topics we post about.
In order to ensure a collaborative and purposeful dialogue, TUD’s Press Office and social media teams cannot tolerate a violation of the aforementioned rules for commenting and as such reserve the right to delete such comments at any time and, if necessary, without giving reasons. In the event of repeated violations by users, we reserve the right to block or report them.
TUD’s social media team is responsible for reviewing and classifying comments, taking into account the severity or frequency of the violations. No-one is entitled to have their comments or contributions published. This is less to do with censorship and much more to do with our ensuring digital decorum, facilitating a constructive exchange that everyone can participate in and enjoy.
In exceptional cases, we reserve the right to close the comments section on a specific post if there is no discernible interest in an objective exchange or if the discussion is dominated by hate content and hostility towards individuals or marginalized groups.
As the site operator, we are obligated to report serious cases of offensive, inciting, defamatory, pornographic, inflammatory, violence-glorifying, youth-endangering, or conspiracy-driven comments to the relevant authorities. This also applies to the threat of grievous bodily harm. We are also obliged to report any criminal offenses.
Posts and comments from third parties
We expressly disclaim responsibility for any links to external content. Furthermore, we do not claim responsibility for comments and posts about us published on other social media channels or shared by other users in their posts or comments on our channels.
Users are responsible for their own comments, not TU Dresden. The copyright for comments protected by copyright law remains with the author. However, authors of posts allow TU Dresden to permanently retain said posts on our channel or to archive them.
