Research-orientated learning and teaching
As part of the Excellence Strategy "TUD 2028 – Synergy and beyond," the Center for Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching (ZiLL) is responsible for three programs that promote research-oriented learning and teaching, all of which are components of the "Research-Oriented Teaching" project in the EXU priority area TALENT.
With these programs, TU Dresden pursues the goal of recruiting and promoting scientific talent at all career levels and of opening up research paths for students at an early stage.
Students and teaching staff interested in research can apply for funding to support student research at TU Dresden through the FOSTER program.
The aims of FOSTER are
- to introduce students to research and scientific culture,
- to strengthen interdisciplinarity
- to establish university-wide incentive structures for student research,
- to reward the commitment of teaching staff to student research projects,
- to attract excellent early-career researchers.

(Junior) scientists from DRESDEN-concept are systematically integrated into research-oriented teaching at TU Dresden through the Teaching Synergies Program (TSP). This is done through joint teaching activities between TU Dresden lecturers and researchers from non-university institutions.
The program is aimed at:
- (Young) scientists of DRESDEN-concept who are aiming for a career at a university, would like to gain experience in university teaching and qualify in the field of university didactics.
- Teachers at TU Dresden who are interested in cooperating with DRESDEN-concept scientists or who would like to further develop existing cooperations within the framework of joint teaching activities.
The goals of the program are
- Creating synergies between TU Dresden and DRESDEN-concept in the field of teaching
- Increasing the attractiveness of courses by integrating non-university research excellence
Teachers and (junior) scientists of the DRESDEN-concept are supported and accompanied within the framework of a qualification program. Furthermore, they can receive individual support in didactic questions on (research-oriented) teaching independently of this during the semester .
Examples of this are
- Individual didactic advice and support for research-oriented teaching
- Individual didactic advice and support for teaching tandems
- Implementation of a Teaching Analysis Poll (TAP) for the interim evaluation of the course

The aim of the Teaching Excellence Tracks (Teaching Excellence Tracks) program is to integrate the content and processes of excellent research (e.g. from Clusters of Excellence, Collaborative Research Centers, DRESDEN-concept partner institutions or DFG-funded projects) into existing or newly established degree programs in a targeted manner via elective modules (research modules, research formats and science coaching).
The resulting Teaching Excellence Tracks offer students interested in cutting-edge research a research-oriented and interdisciplinary range of courses with attractive, internationally compatible teaching and learning formats. These research-focused tracks integrate the (digital) research infrastructures into teaching at TU Dresden.
The program is aimed at:
- Students who aspire to an academic career and are interested in interdisciplinary research.
- Lecturers who offer these research-oriented courses in order to attract early-career researchers.
The Teaching Excellence Tracks (Teaching Excellence Tracks) are a completely new offering. They are developed individually and collaboratively; structures and content are tailored to the needs of the researchers. Concept ideas and suggestions are always welcome. The opportunities for participation are diverse; they range from the development and provision of research-oriented teaching-learning formats to the development of entire research-oriented modules, from dedicated committee work to the design of degree programmes to implement the Teaching Excellence Tracks.
