Graduate scholarship holder introduced: Emilia Zelazek
- Degree program: B.A. Social Education, Social Work and Welfare Science
- Faculty: Faculty of Education
- Thesis title: Classism and health inequality in adolescence
- What central question(s) does your thesis answer?
As classism receives significantly less attention in German-speaking countries than other forms of discrimination such as racism or sexism, I felt it was important to look into its structures. Furthermore, my interests lie in the areas of prevention and health promotion. As health-promoting routines are usually established in adolescence, I combined these aspects in my work. The aim was to answer the question of what influence classism has on health inequalities among young people in Germany. - What are your plans after graduation?
I would first like to continue my studies and have therefore opted for the consecutive Master's degree course in Social Pedagogy at TU Dresden. - What area do you want to work in after graduation?
My work as a tutor and writing peer tutor has shown me that I really enjoy discussing content with other students. After graduating, I would therefore like to share my knowledge with others. For this reason, I am aiming for a position in the university or further education sector. - Why did you decide to study at TU Dresden?
I decided to study at TU Dresden because the range of courses is very diverse and intersectional. you can easily choose the content that interests you. - What do you particularly like about Dresden, what will you miss?I won't miss anything, because I'm staying in Dresden for my further studies. I particularly like the wide range of leisure activities. I really enjoy spending time in the Great Garden, which offers many opportunities: Ice skating in winter, inline skating in summer, jogging or simply going for a walk in the countryside.
- What memories do you have from your studies?
My Bachelor's degree was very rich in content. I was able to try out many areas and find out where my strengths lie. The opportunities to customize your studies are great - that's also the reason why I want to stay at TU Dresden.
I recently found out that I passed my thesis and have therefore successfully completed my Bachelor's degree. Without the graduation scholarship, this would definitely have been more difficult. With the scholarship, I didn't have to worry about having enough money for the semester fee, for example.
