Eva Bütow at the 27th IACAPAP World Congress in Hamburg

Thanks to funding from the Association of Friends and Supporters of TU Dresden, I was able to attend the 27th World Congress of the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP) in Hamburg from July 1 to 4, 2026. The congress brings together researchers and professionals from the fields of child and adolescent psychiatry and psychology, as well as related disciplines, to discuss the latest findings on the mental health of children, adolescents, and families.

Together with my colleague Lea Wölflein, I chaired the symposium “The Dynamics of Parenting: Psychological, Biological, and Relational Pathways Across Development” and also gave a presentation there. In my presentation, I discussed the role that relationship quality and conflict behavior play in the stress experience of clinically distressed parents during the peripartum period. The fact that the couple’s relationship plays such a central role here was taken up in the subsequent discussion, particularly with regard to what this might mean for the care of families around the time of birth.

For me, the conference was particularly valuable because it gave me the opportunity to present my work for the first time to an international audience of experts. The feedback and discussions with researchers from other countries provided me with concrete ideas for my future work and helped me establish new professional connections.
