Jelly Gums, Teabags and Beverage Cartons - a field trip
The annual excursion of the Chair of Processing Machines and Processing Technology took place from 14.05.-16.05.24. This year's destination was Düsseldorf and the surrounding area.
Early in the morning of May 14, 28 students from the mechanical engineering and process engineering courses set off for Düsseldorf together with 3 supervisors from the chair. The first stop was in Wernigerode at the company Chocotech GmbH. Here they were able to look at the production and assembly of technology for the manufacture of all confectionery products (e.g. hard caramel and chewy sweets, bars, fondant, jelly, etc.). The visit was sweetened by jelly sweets made in the Chocotech laboratory. After a short refreshment, we continued on to Düsseldorf.
In Düsseldorf on May 15, a visit to the companies TEEPACK Spezialmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG and Teekanne GmbH & Co. KG were on the program. First, we were shown how the tea bag machines work and how they are manufactured. Afterwards, the machines could be marveled at in action in the production of the various tea varieties of the world-famous Teekanne brand.
On the last day of the excursion, the students visited SIG Combibloc Systems GmbH in Linnich. The production of the world-famous SIG beverage cartons was explained to the students and the structure of the filling systems was explained. The visit was rounded off with a tour of the company's production plant, the assembly of the filling systems and SIG's internal development and training center. Afterwards, we returned to Dresden, where the excursion ended late in the evening.
Many thanks to all the representatives of the companies visited. The students gained an insight into the latest technological developments and applications in the processing and packaging industry. They were able to look at on what they had learned during their studies in practice. The field trip was also used to establish contacts with leading companies in the processing and packaging sector for future student research projects, internships or career entry.
Special thanks also go to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering for the travel grant and the Gesellschaft von Freunden und Förderern der TU Dresden e.V, which, as in previous years, provided financial support for the bus trip.
