Campus life
Staff and students spend many hours of their lives on the campus of TU Dresden. The university campus is also an important place for guests of the university, as well as for residents and visitors from far and wide. Everyone should feel comfortable and enjoy spending time on the campus, no matter how old they are or where they come from - whether it be for studying and working, or for leisure and recreation.
To make this happen, TU Dresden is committed to transparency, appreciation, creativity, innovation, social connection, accessibility, participation and interaction. It stands up for democratic values, encourages members to use their own initiative, and aligns its activities as far as possible with the principle of sustainability. This also includes the idea of TUD as a living lab, a real laboratory in which our research is directly implemented, i.e. ideas are tested in reality.
Only a university that acts according to its own principles can fulfill its role as an actor both in and for society.
This page provides an overview of campus activities in which everyone can participate, or which should help to make everyone’s time on campus even better.

Student Clubs
Dresden is considered the unofficial “capital of student clubs”. There are 13 in total. There is also a student club at each of the study locations Tharandt, Zittau and Görlitz. We are always looking for: Helpers! The Association of Dresden Student Clubs (VDSC) brings all of Dresden’s clubs together.
Campus Buildings and their History
The majority of the university buildings bear the names of personalities from the university’s history. The tradition of naming buildings in this way dates back to the 1920s. Learn more about the buildings you visit or take a guided tour for even more detailed information.
Campus Life despite Coronavirus-related Restrictions
Student life is considered very social because it offers many opportunities to meet people during and through your studies. After three online semesters, it has once again become possible to be present on campus, albeit in a restricted way. During the last few months, many opportunities for relaxed learning from home have been created, which the Unit Campus Life has developed and compiled alongside the Occupational Health Services.
Participation
University Groups
In the university groups, staff and students of TU Dresden can voluntarily get involved and actively participate in shaping life on campus. The wide range means that there is something for everybody. Sustainable Campus
The Green Office of TU Dresden informs, supports and networks university members in the field of ecological sustainability. Interested parties can familiarize themselves here about the topic of sustainability at TU Dresden, contribute their wishes and ideas, and network with other actors in the field.
The Green Office is the newest feature and expands the already long-standing commitment of TU Dresden in questions concerning environmental protection.
Beyond the Campus
In 2021, Directorate University Culture started the event TUD Lectures, in which experts from various disciplines at TU Dresden examine current topics. In lectures lasting up to one and a half hours, the experts present their knowledge in a clear and understandable way. The TUD Lectures are aimed at the TUD community and all interested parties.
Culture of Interpersonal Interaction
The Unit Campus Life is responsible for projects at the university that deal with interpersonal relationships. Questions arising in this area include: How should we show recognition - e.g. at anniversaries of service, farewells, for special achievements, towards certain professional groups? Several working groups are already involved in this area.
