International Day - Women and Girls in Science
International Day of Women and Girls in Science
The International Day of Women and Girls in Science was adopted at the United Nations General Assembly on December 22, 2015. It is celebrated annually on February 11th. The goal of the day is therefore to promote the full and equal participation and involvement of women and girls in science and to remind them of the crucial role they play in science and technology.
Most countries, whether industrialized or not, still have a long way to go in achieving gender equality in the so-called STEM subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology) at all levels of the education system. According to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, the global share of women in research and development work is less than 30 percent.
On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11, TU Dresden organizes different events:
- Event on the 11th of February at TU Dresden
- After Lunch Talk - Women In Science on Monday, February 13, 2 - 4 p.m. at the COSMO Science Forum
