Staff Unit Diversity Management at the International Staff Training Week 2019
The Staff Unit Diversity Management also participated in the International Staff Training Week 2019, offering a session for the Specialist Group “Creating a University Culture of Responsibility” on 6 June. Session IV participants came from Indiana University (USA), Politechnic of Leiria (Portugal), NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities, Lissabon (Portugal) and Shiraz University (Iran) and contributed actively to the discussion around the Staff Unit’s presentations on the topics of “Diversity Management”, “Equal opportunity”, “Family Friendliness at TU Dresden” and “Action Plan for Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)”, and comparing the status quo at their respective home institutions. The guests were particularly impressed with TU Dresden’s institutional embedding of the Diversity Strategy 2030, the Gender Equality Concept 2018 and the Action Plan on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), but also with practical measures such as the flexible childcare (Flying Nanny Service). In turn, what was quite interesting for the Staff Unit Diversity Management was the concept of “First Thursdays” of Indiana University, a monthly festival during the warmer seasons to which the university invites their staff and staff’s families, offering music, performances, activities and food.
