Wikipedia is dominated by men. Not only are women extremely underrepresented among the authors, but only 18 per cent of the biography articles are dedicated to women. Yet women have made a significant contribution to science, history and society.

Increasing their visibility in Wikipedia is a challenge that TU Dresden would like to tackle together with the Women@DDc network. The occasion is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which takes place annually on 11 February. 

Anyone who has always wanted to know how Wikipedia actually works and would like to contribute something themselves is cordially invited to the two-part workshop "WikiWomen in Science: Creating Visibility, Sharing Stories".

The workshop will first provide an insight into the German-language Wikipedia. In addition, we want to create articles on female scientists who are currently missing from Wikipedia. Steffi Eckold, herself a long-time Wikipedian, will lead the workshop and help with the creation of articles.

• The basic workshop, on 5 February from 3 to 6 pm, offers the opportunity to get to know Wikipedia and its structures. Anyone wishing to write an article will receive initial assistance. (Participation in presence or digitally possible).

• The in-depth workshop on 12 February from 3 to 6 pm is then dedicated to fine-tuning your Wikipedia article with the aim of publication. Interested parties have the opportunity to draft an article between 5 and 12 February. (Participation is only possible in presence)

Please note that the entire workshop will be held in German and will be dedicated to working in the German Wikipedia.
