Internationale Wochen gegen Rassismus 2025Film und Filmgespräch "Es brennt"
Youmna Fouad
Omar, Amal and little Ahmad are a happy Arab family in Germany. When Amal is racially insulted and attacked in a playground by a man called Franz, a court case develops which becomes a burden for the whole family as the accused tries to portray himself as the “victim” of the incident.
The film was inspired in part by the fate of the Egyptian woman Marwa El-Sherbini, who was stabbed to death in 2009 after testifying in Dresden District Court. This will be followed by a film discussion to which the director Erol Afşin will also be invited, as well as contributors to the commemoration of Marwa El-Sherbini, including former Marwa El-Sherbini scholarship holder Youmna Fouad.
A film as part of the International Weeks against Racism in cooperation with the TU Dresden and the SLUB.
