As was the case in many German cities, the books of undesirable authors such as Erich Kästner, Heinrich Mann and Kurt Tucholsky were burned in Dresden on May 10, 1933. Organized by the Students’ League of TH Dresden, the campaign “against the un-German spirit” culminated in the burning of books at the Bismarck Column. On the 90th anniversary of the book burning, TU Dresden and the SLUB are organizing a critical campus tour on May 13. The tour will start at 11:00 am at Münchner Platz. From there, the tour will stop at various locations on the TU campus, finishing at the Bismarck Column on Räcknitzhöhe. During the tour, the historian Dr. Hagen Schönrich will shed light on the role of the Technische Hochschule Dresden under the National Socialist regime.
