Preamble Honorary doctoral graduates

In the online directory of honorary doctoral graduates, all honorary doctorates at the TU Dresden are listed. Among them are renowned scientists, inventors, entrepreneurs, managers and politicians. For the encyclopedia, the holdings of the University Archives, the Saxon State Archives, the Federal Archives and the SLUB were evaluated. The list of honorary promoters is constantly updated and can be searched here.

In retrospect, it should be noted that some of the honors would not have been awarded according to today's assessments. It had to be clarified whether and under what conditions a withdrawal of the honor is legally possible. In the Free State of Saxony, an honorary degree may be withdrawn if there is a final conviction for an offense. An honorary degree must be withdrawn if there has been a final conviction for a crime. Legally, the honorary degree expires upon the death of the titleholder, so there may be no need for posthumous revocation. To date, no honorary degree has been withdrawn.

The biographical references to honorary doctoral graduates, who as scientists, entrepreneurs and managers had made a particularly sustained contribution to the Nazi regime, were supplemented with further information about their activities in the period between 1933 and 1945.
