Apply now: NHR scholarships for HPC doctorates
As one of the nine locations in the Germany-wide network of the National High-Performance Computing (NHR), the ZIH is actively involved in the NHR Graduate School, which awards up to nine doctoral scholarships worldwide each year. holding a Master's degree in computer science, mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering, and who is passionate about high-performance computing (HPC) has the opportunity to receive outstanding support at one of the NHR centers. Applications can be submitted up to and including September 15, 2025, with funding starting on April 1 of the following year. ZIH offers diverse and forward-looking core research areas, including software tools for performance analysis, HPC workflows in the life sciences, high-performance storage systems and machine learning. In addition to monthly funding of €2,200, doctoral students benefit from international supervision, first-class training opportunities and a research stay at another NHR center. New operating status page online
To ensure the smooth use of digital systems, it is essential to be reliably informed about maintenance work and outages. ZIH provides this information via its operating status page, which will be available with a new look at https://betriebsstatus.tu-dresden.de starting June 2, 2025. Alongside improved security features, the updated page offers a clearer overview of system statuses. To ensure availability even during major outages, it will be hosted externally in the future. An automatic redirect from the old address has been set up. Feedback on the new operating status page is welcome and can be sent via e-mail to the Service Desk. (Contact: )
Vulnerability scans for domains and containers
Regular vulnerability scans are a key component of modern IT security strategies. At TU Dresden, all servers in the Enterprise Cloud and those accessible from the internet have been regularly scanned for known vulnerabilities for several years. Since May 2025, the central Windows domains have also been included in these checks. Administrators who operate their own Windows domains can request a scan through TUD-CERT. In addition, TUD-CERT is currently developing a new service for automated vulnerability scans of Docker containers. Interested operators of Docker containers are invited to participate in and help shape the development of this service. Further information: https://tud.de/cert/schwachstellenmanagement. (Contact: )
Zoom: Live translation can be activated
The "Translated subtitles" function in Zoom is now available as an add-on for all members of TU Dresden and supports subtitles in 35 languages. Only the person who creates the meeting or webinar must be assigned the add-on before the event begins; short-term activation is also possible. All participants can then individually select their preferred subtitle language. For the best experience, we recommend using the Zoom Workplace app, which provides significantly faster translations than the browser version. As with the Large Meeting add-on, the Translated Subtitles add-on can be requested by emailing the Service Desk, including the date of the event. (Contact: )
22nd Dresden Science Night
On Friday, June 20, 2025, the TUD will open its doors for the 22nd Dresden Science Night. The ZIH and ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig will once again provide the public with up-to-date insights into their work in the fields of computer science, AI and high-performance computing. In the Living Lab (APB-1020), ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig invites visitors to discover and participate: Through demonstrators, AI, machine learning, language models, virtual reality, image recognition and segmentation can be directly experienced here and can be tried out for yourself. The ZIH offers an insight into its data center: the supercomputers and storage systems as well as the associated infrastructure can be viewed during half-hourly tours. There is a separate tour for children at 5 pm. In the Faculty of Computer Science's lecture program, the ZIH is represented with a lecture on virtual liver research with simulations (not suitable for children). Another highlight is the //DataSpaces exhibition in the SLUB's Makerspace. Ten interactive stations, including exhibits from ScaDS.AI and the ZIH, make digitization tangible – from historical punched tape and data cards to supercomputing and the Magic Mirror. ISC High Performance 2025 in Hamburg
ISC High Performance is celebrating its 40th anniversary in Hamburg this year. Under the motto "Connecting the dots", it will bring together leading experts from science, industry and research from June 10 to 13, 2025. The focus will be on innovations in HPC and AI, data analytics, system architecture and software, performance, and quantum computing — all aimed at fostering exchange and global networking. The ZIH and ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig will present their work in HPC, AI, data and performance analysis at a joint booth. Also present at the booth is the deep-tech start-up SpiNNcloud Systems GmbH, which will showcase a SpiNN48 server board with a case for desktop applications. The team will also take part in the Gauß-Allianz and NHR Association booths and the scientific conference program. Topics will be presented in Birds-of-a-Feather sessions, workshops, tutorials and at the poster session. Further information https://isc-hpc.com/. (Contact: Dr. René Jäkel)
Euro-Par 2025 @ TUD - Registration open
Registration for Euro-Par 2025 is now open. The 31st International European Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing will take place from 25 to 29 August 2025 at TU Dresden; jointly organized by the ZIH and the Faculty of Computer Science. As the leading European conference in the field of parallel and distributed computing, Euro-Par brings together researchers, developers and users from academia and industry every year. The conference program includes six thematic tracks and three keynotes by internationally renowned researchers: Prof. Florina Ciorba (University of Basel), Prof. Martin Schulz (TUM) and Prof. Domenico Talia (Università della Calabria). The program will be complemented by workshops on current research topics, a PhD symposium to promote early-career researchers and an artifact assessment to support reproducibility in research. A supporting program with venues in the heart of Dresden, culinary highlights and a thematically appropriate artistic interlude also invites informal exchange.
