HPC
The ZIH offers resources for high-performance computing:
- capability computing for computing on a few thousand processors
- capacity computing for independently carrying out computing, for example a large amount of experiments or parameter studies
These extensive calculations are normally managed by a queue / batch system.
Services Included:
The currently available hardware and software on the HPC machines is documented under https://doc.zih.tu-dresden.de. New applications will be installed if there is great need.
Options:
The hardware at the ZIH is subject to constantly changing technology. Not every machine is suitable for each application.
HPC projects at the ZIH can be applied for by professors and group leaders. Those authorized by the project leader may work on the HPC system.
A requirement for access to the HPC-Systems is a HPC-Project application and a valid HPC login, which is subject to the user rules. It is required that usersinform themselves independently in the HPC-Compendium about working on our systems.
The ZIH offers introductory courses about HPC as well as about deeper questions regarding HPC.
Free for projects at saxon research institutes
Provisioning time:
Once all necessary information and documents are handed in it normally takes a maximum of two working days to activate the project.
Operating time / Operation status:
HPC machines are generally available around the clock. Maintenance times will be posted.
